This policy covers the Hearth Stories: Family Voices app for Android (package com.mystoryalbum) and the Hearth Stories guest recording page. It applies to Hearth Stories only.
Who we are
Hearth Stories is operated by Ocean Digital Group LLC ("we", "us"). Contact: support@oceandigitalgroup.com.
Summary
Your own stories, photos and recordings stay on your device. We never receive them.
When you invite someone to record a story, their voice recording, the name they enter (optional) and the prompt you wrote are sent to our server temporarily, so the recording can reach your app.
That data is used only to make the app work. It is not sold or shared, and it is always encrypted in transit.
If you subscribe, our subscription provider RevenueCat processes your purchase history and a random app user ID so your subscription works.
We do not collect location, analytics, advertising IDs or hardware device identifiers. The only identifier involved is RevenueCat's random per-install app user ID, used for subscriptions.
Information that stays on your device
Stories you create in the app — your voice recordings, photos from your camera or photo library, titles, dates and prompt answers — are stored only on your device. They are not uploaded to us. The app may read a photo's capture date and location metadata on your device. This information is not sent to us, and on Android the app does not look up place names.
Information sent to our server (invite-to-record only)
When you create an invite link and a family member uses it to record a story, we process:
Voice recording from the guest — Recorded on the guest recording page and uploaded to our server so it can be delivered to your app. Retention: Temporary. Deleted from our server as soon as your app downloads it, or after 45 days if it is never downloaded — whichever comes first.
Name (optional) — The name the guest chooses to enter, and the inviter name shown on the invite, if provided. Entering a name is optional. Retention: Kept with the invite or recording and deleted with it.
Prompt — The question or prompt you write for the invite. Retention: Kept with the invite or recording and deleted with it. Invite links expire after 7 days or when used.
Technical data: When the app or the guest recording page contacts our server, our hosting provider receives your IP address as part of the connection. We use a one-way hashed form of it only for short-term rate limiting to prevent abuse, and we do not store raw IP addresses or use them to identify you.
To keep your invites private, the app uses a random private album identifier that our server creates; it is not linked to your name, email, phone number or any account. Invite links contain a random single-use token.
Subscriptions (RevenueCat)
Hearth Stories is free for up to 5 new stories a month; Hearth Stories Unlimited is an optional auto-renewing subscription (monthly or yearly) sold through Google Play. Payments are handled by Google Play; we never see your card details. To check whether your subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat, Inc. as our service provider, which processes:
Purchase history — Which Hearth Stories subscription you bought, its status, and renewal/expiry dates (from Google Play).
App user ID A random, anonymous ID that RevenueCat creates for this app install. It is not your name, email, advertising ID or device ID.
This data is used only for app functionality (unlocking and restoring your subscription), is encrypted in transit, and is not used for advertising or analytics. RevenueCat processes it on our behalf under its privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy. You can cancel anytime in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. To ask us to delete subscription records held by RevenueCat, email support@oceandigitalgroup.com (Google Play keeps its own purchase records under Google's privacy policy).
How we use this data
Only to provide the app's functionality: delivering a guest's recording, with its name and prompt, to the person who invited them. We do not use it for advertising, analytics, profiling or training.
Sharing
We do not share your data with third parties for their own purposes and we do not sell it. Our service providers process it on our behalf solely to run the service: Rork and Cloudflare, which host our server and the guest recording page; SiteGround, which hosts our website oceandigitalgroup.com, including this policy page (SiteGround receives visitors' IP addresses as part of normal web hosting); and RevenueCat, for subscriptions.
Security
All data sent between the app, the guest recording page and our server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Recordings can only be fetched by the album owner's app through short-lived, single-use access grants.
What we do not collect
No location. The app does not request location permission and does not send location data.
No analytics or crash-tracking data.
No hardware device identifiers or advertising IDs (the RevenueCat app user ID is a random per-install ID).
No accounts, email addresses or phone numbers.
Your own photos and audio — these stay on your device.
Deletion
Delete one story: open the story and tap Delete. Its audio and photo files are removed from your device, and for an invited story any remaining server copy is deleted too.
Delete everything: Settings → Clear All Stories. This deletes all stories, audio and photo files on your device, deletes any guest recordings still waiting on our server, and turns off all your invite links.
By email: write to support@oceandigitalgroup.com and we will delete any data our server holds for you, and ask RevenueCat to delete your subscription records.
Guest recordings are also deleted automatically as described above. Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on your device.
Your rights
You can ask us to access or delete data we hold about you by emailing support@oceandigitalgroup.com. We respond within 30 days.
Device permissions
Microphone — to record stories.
Camera — to take photos for a story.
Photos are chosen with the system photo picker; the app does not need broad storage access.
Children
Hearth Stories is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has used an invite link, contact us and we will delete the data.
Changes
We will post any changes on this page and update the date above.
